Improve Your Table Tennis Serve (Part 9 of 13)

LOW AND HIGH THROW

The Low Throw Tends To Result In;

  • A higher bounce on the opponent’s side of the table. The effort required to make the ball clear the net has an equal and opposite reaction on the other side of the table.
  • The serve being easier to read. It requires a more pronounced differentiation in the service action to initiate differing spins and speeds from a ‘standing’ ball position.

A High Throw Tends To Result In;

  • A dipping or lower bouncing ball on the receiver’s side of the table. This is because little speed initiation is needed, there is already downward speed on the ball. All that is necessary is to convert this to forward speed.
  • A more unreadable service action. There is no need to come from above or below the ball to initiate differing spin or speed or to come hard into the ball to assist the bounce factor.
